What is distinctive about Zen is that the teaching is transmitted from person to person, outside the scriptures. At Kanshoji, the teaching is provided by Taiun Jean-Pierre Faure, who received the shiho from Donin Minamizawa Roshi.
The teaching takes various forms
hosan
The master speaks freely about the dharma in the presence of his
disciples, around a cup of tea. Dogen writes :
« A monastery
is not great because it has a great number of disciples. It is
great because in the morning shosan is practised and bansan in
the evening ».

Mondo
The mondo is the opportunity, for the disciple, to ask the master
a question on some aspects of the teaching and their realisation
in daily life.
Teisho
Here, the teaching takes the form of a lecture.
Apart from those teachings transmitted by the master, we are
educated by the sangha in all common activities : ceremonies,
meals, samu, sewing of the kesa…
ll the teachings are translated into English.
