Staying at Kanshoji

All those who live in the monastery together form a single body in which each has a his or her own place. The desire to live like a Buddha is the very reason for the monastery's existence. The rules, along with daily practice, allow us to forget ourselves at every moment. This practice of giving is a source of happiness.

The essence of the Buddha Way is to allow human beings to live in harmony with one another. That is why the basic rule in the monastery is to take others into account.

The first experience in the monastery begins with a period of solitude, of turning inward, followed by a period of sharing with the residents. A typical day begins with zazen in the morning and ends with zazen in the evening. Between the two there are ceremonies, meals taken together, the work necessary to keep the monastery running, teaching, study, and encounters.

Two sorts of stays are possible:

1. Open to All periods

Come for a few days or a few weeks to discover the Buddha's teaching, have a taste of life in the monastery, or simply make a retreat.
